Coach Kara

What motivated you to become a runner?
In 2017, while I was in college, my friend asked me to train for a half-marathon with her and I had never done a race in my life. I ended up losing 35 pounds during training and I've never turned back ever since. I fell in love with running and how good it made me feel about myself and my body!
What is your favorite race distance?
Half-Marathons are the perfect amount for me!
What was your favorite race or running event?
My favorite race I've done so far was the EDM 5K I did, everyone wore glow sticks and the course was glowing in the dark with glow lights :)
What are your goals for 2019?
My goal for 2019 is to do another half marathon, and train for a whole marathon right after. It will be my first marathon ever!
What is your favorite post-race meal?
I love going out to eat after race. Most likely some pasta or a burger.
During a race, what is the food at an aid station that makes you retch?
Anything that's too sugary.
What do you tell yourself for motivation as you run up the steepest hills?
"Your glutes will love you after this, Kara!"
What is your favorite running inspirational quote?
“The point is whether or not I improved over yesterday. In long-distance running the only opponent you have to beat is yourself, the way you used to be.” Haruki Murakami
What is your favorite running shoe?
Hoka Hupana all the way! It makes me feel like I'm running on pillows.
Do you prefer trucker hats or mesh hats or no hat for running and why?
I prefer no hats. I don't like the feeling of my hair being confined and sweaty haha!
Do you prefer running on roads or trails and why?
I prefer roads. I will trip and tumble roll in the dirt all day long if I run trails.
What is your biggest reason you continue to run?
I want to continue to keep myself in healthy shape, I don't want to get back to the weight I was when I started. Running makes me feel more confident through out the day!
